Wintercircus

The Wintercircus, also known as the old Mahy garage, has been renovated on a large scale by City Development Company Sogent. From 2023, it should become Ghent’s new hotspot, a meeting place for all Ghent citizens.

Especially the impressive central square, the previous circus arena, catches the eye. In addition, the Wintercircus includes various areas for digital innovation companies as well as a shop, an underground concert hall for about 500 people, a bar and a panoramic rooftop restaurant with a terrace.

Renovating old buildings circularly, it can be done. With regard to circular construction, the aim here was to maximise the preservation of narrative elements, such as the old stables, which were minimally renovated while retaining columns, brick vaults and iron poutrelles. CO₂ neutrality is guaranteed by the BEO field, i.e. here the soil is used to heat/cool the building. The perfect positioning of the 4 existing escalators that take you to the 14 floors makes the Wintercircus a very accessible complex.

Our mission was to follow up this renovation, working within the financial scope in terms of optimal quality and timing.
