18 years of pioneering BREEAM in Belgium

Over the years, our BREEAM expertise has evolved alongside the challenges facing the sector. Throughout this journey, we have helped introduce and apply several BREEAM schemes in Belgium. Key milestones include:

2008: Among the first BREEAM New Construction assessors.

2009: Participation in the BREEAM In-Use International pilot.

2019–2020: Early adoption of BREEAM Refurbishment and BREEAM Communities.

2026: The first licensed BREEAM Infrastructure assessor in Belgium.

The ‘Assessor Organisation of the Year’ award recognises this journey and our ongoing commitment to quality.

Quatuor: four towers, one sustainable urban development

What if buildings could give back more than they consume? With Quatuor, Befimmo translated this ambition into a regenerative urban development spanning 60,000 m² in the heart of Brussels. An underused site made way for a project designed to create long-term value for people and the environment.

Quatuor consists of four towers that function together as one integrated system. Each tower independently achieved a BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ rating. The project combines a design that minimises energy consumption with advanced water buffering and reuse systems. Environmental performance and occupant wellbeing are central to its approach.

We supported Befimmo throughout the entire journey, from strategic advice and coordination of the certification process to conducting the BREEAM assessments. Following its shortlist nomination, Quatuor was named ‘New Construction Project of the Year’ in 2026.
