Winning projects at the 2020 Challenge

Two projects were proclaimed as winner during the 2020 Challenge by a professional jury from a selected shortlist.The public award goes to:
Infrax, office Torhout
In order to centralise all its services to one location, Infrax built a new headquarters in Torhout. As manager and distributor of energy, Infrax wants to set an example by realising a sustainable building.
CrepainBinst Architecten and VK Engineering integrated innovative energy saving techniques in the design. Bopro insured the missions of Project Management and Cost Consultancy.
The building manages the energy in a rational and economical way.The lighting concept responds to the high comfort requirements as well as the ambitious targets for energy saving. Photovoltaic panels were incorporated into the sustainable façade. Last but not least, water reservoirs around the building and a green roof provide the collection of rainwater.

The multifunctional sports center in Maldegem
The project is innovative in terms of sustainability. From the concept phase on, the orientation, use of materials and techniques were taken into account in order to reduce as much as possible the need of energy for the building. Furthermore the building also uses a maximum of renewable energy.Van Acker & Partners and Arcadis are responsible for the sustainable design.
The project is currently in progress. Bopro is responsible for the Project Management as well as the Safety and Health Coordination. The use of the building is foreseen mid 2010.What is the 2020 Challenge?
The name of the contest refers to the Kyoto target in order to lower the CO2 emission and energy use with 20% by 2020. It goes without saying that innovative solutions of the designers play an important role to achieve this challenge. With this contest the organisers aim to hearten the advisory- and engineering offices who contribute to this challenge and to encourage the sector in general to develop innovative and sustainable solutions.
